Carter Hardware, Inc., is the premier decorative hardware and plumbing showroom in the western United States, owned and operated by a family that has been involved in all phases of the industry for three generations. The Carter family has been in the builders hardware industry since the late part of the 19th century.
Carter Brothers Hardware was established in Los Angeles in the early 1900’s by two great uncles of the owner of Carter Hardware. Acme Hardware, the precursor of the first decorative plumbing and hardware hardware showroom in the western United States, was opened in 1923 by his grandfather. Phylrich International, one of the seminal decorative hardware and plumbing manufacturers of the modern era, began operation in 1959 with his father at the helm.
The current generation of the family entered the business in 1978 at Acme Hardware. In 1984 another company, Decorators Accessories, was formed to import decorative hardware and shortly thereafter bought a metal polishing and plating company which became Decorative Metal Finishing. In 1991 Carter Hardware was opened for business and has been in the same location in Beverly Hills since 1994.
Our mission at Carter Hardware is to offer our clientele the best experience while offering a wider variety of products and services than you will find anywhere else with superior customer service. Each of our staff has a minimum of 20 years experience each (two have over 30 years!), so we are uniquely qualified with in-depth knowledge of product and its’ application to properly specify the right product for your project. We prefer to be involved in projects in the early phases of design and architecture in order to seamlessly integrate our scope of work into your yours.
We have custom capability greater than almost anyone else, and have made custom locks, door hardware and cabinet hardware, as well as custom faucetry and tubs. We are expert at integrating very old mechanisms with new trim, custom making locks to fit into existing door preparations, or restoring old locks to perfect working order. Owning and operating a complete polishing and plating facility has given us expertise in finishing that is second to none. The advantage you have at Carter Hardware is that we are not limited in any way, either to one manufacturer or a single method of manufacturing. We have products sand cast, investment cast, drop forged or up to 5-axis CNC machined, depending on the process that is most appropriate.
